Diversity and Inclusion

The Penn Compact 2020 affirms Inclusion as a means toward the essential ends of higher education: equalizing opportunity, educating leaders for all sectors of society, and enriching the experience of all members of the University community. Penn Engineering remains strongly committed to initiatives that support the University’s efforts to achieve an educational and employment environment that is diverse in race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, interests, abilities and perspectives. We strive to attract a diverse community of students and faculty, to provide an accessible, rigorous engineering education, and to improve our local and global communities through engineering.

Penn Engineering completed a thorough review of diversity in the School and the effectiveness of its existing programs. The result of the review, the Penn Engineering Diversity Plan, outlines the efforts and measures that Penn Engineering is undertaking to further improve the diversity throughout the Penn Engineering faculty and student body. The School’s Advancing Women in Engineering (AWE) program is dedicated to recruiting, retaining, and promoting women in Penn Engineering through the development and support of initiatives that increase the number of women interested in studying engineering, enhancing the overall academic experience of female students in Penn Engineering, and creating and supporting social and networking opportunities for women in engineering.

Global and Local Engagement

Penn Engineering prepares all of its students to be well-rounded, global citizens, embracing the mission of the University to look beyond campus to identify where and how to make a difference.
